LSPC is proud to steward the Freedom and Movement Center. Our building, paid in full, provides a safe environment for our community to land after incarceration and a gathering space to build community and convene our movements.
Called the Freedom & Movement Center, lovingly nicknamed the “FAM” Center, the building fosters an environment for community engagement and provides space to train the next generation of leaders. Clients and members who enter the building are shown that the building is their space, and we have an open door policy. The building also creates a reliable stream of revenue, holding 8 offices that LSPC is committed to offering at below market rate. Tenants who are from the community, Black, and offer wellness or mission-aligned services are prioritized.
Strategically located two blocks from the historic Black Panther Headquarters, the building’s purchase by a Black-led organization is a powerful protest against the gentrification of Oakland and a resolution to preserve a vibrant Black community in Oakland.
