California has six small mother-infant prison facilities, all run by outside contractors with an on-site representative of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). They house only 1% of the 10,000 women in state prison facilities. This report looks at a number of program features, such as childcare/childrearing issues, food, medical care, relationship to the outside world and re-entry.
